Kindergarten Open House in May

We are very excited to be hosting our spring Kindergarten Open House on Wednesday May 14 from 4 to 6 pm for students and families who will be joining our school in September!

At the open house you and your child will have the chance to:

· Explore a Kindergarten classroom

· Meet the school staff

· Confirm your child’s Kindergarten registration

· Learn more about the Kindergarten program at our school

If you registered your child for Kindergarten before April 22, you will have already received an emailed invitation to attend the Kindergarten Open House.

If you haven’t registered yet, there’s still time!

· Can I register online or at the Kindergarten Open House? You can do either! It’s completely up to you. Registering online is fast and easy.

· What documents do I need? You’ll want to bring proof of your child’s birth date, such as a birth certificate, a baptismal certificate or an official letter from your child’s doctor. You will also be asked to show where you currently live. A utility bill and a tax bill are examples that show your address. Unfortunately, we can’t use driver’s licenses or cell phone bills to confirm your address.

· You will also want to have the name, phone number and address for a trusted adult, such as a family member or close friend the school can call in an emergency in case they can’t reach you

· Can I bring my child? You are welcome to bring your child, and they will love to see our school!

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday May 14 from 4:00pm-6:00pm

At Prince of Wales Public School, we are constantly “Striving for Excellence in a Respectful, Safe and Challenging Learning Environment!” Prince of Wales Public School is a warm, friendly, and active school nestled in the city of Thorold within the District School Board of Niagara. We are home to approximately 300 students from Kindergarten to Grade 8.

Our school was built in 1923 which replaced the West Side School that began as an eight room school. Both inside and out, the building has unique features like the prominent arches, the majestic front door, high ceilings and interesting nooks and crannies. Our parents and grandparents are connected to our community school and they are pleased to have the next generation attend their home school. Our newest addition in 2018 was our lighted outdoor sign that keeps our community updated on our monthly activities. In 2024 we did some indoor renovations such a fresh coat of paint, adding an elevator, and creating a warm and inviting sensory room, among other finishing touches.

We are comprised of an exceptional educational team of teachers, a literacy coach, educational assistants, principal, support staff, youth counselor and social workers.

Prince of Wales provides a rich and varied program in language, math, the arts, social sciences, and computers. Students participate in experiences and opportunities which encourage the development of excellence, integrity, tolerance, respect and a sense of social responsibility.

Be Safe ~ Be Respectful~ Be Responsible is a focus in our school.

If you have any questions, just ask! We are here to help!

We are pleased to provide an outstanding education for our students. Innovative programs that meet the individual needs of all our students are taught by our dedicated and professional staff who care about your child. Extra-curricular opportunities include various sports like soccer, basketball, volleyball and track and field. Choir, chess, math and reading clubs are offered each year. We continue to build our knowledge and use of technology. Our Learning Commons was renovated in 2016 and it holds our library and our computer lab. Additionally, we have 60 chrome books accessed by our students daily!

Creating an environment where we are working together on Literacy and Numeracy achievement is key. We strive to achieve success for every student. We appreciate and value the community partnerships and parent involvement which are so crucial to the successful education for our students.
